Most people might think that Counting Journal (create> on-hand) and Stock Card Sum** (inventory> reports> status> stock card> stock card sum) will generate the same information.
Actually, that idea is almost right. One of the things in common is ... Both report will not present any items which have no transaction since Item codes have been created. This is based on the criteria that we need the reports show the items with zero balance quantity.
However, something which is slightly different here is the fact that On-hand counting journal recognize the deleted transaction which not posted yet. This means that if one item used to be created at least once, but was not processed till the end and deleted, this item code will be shown in the on-hand counting journal while Stock Card Sum will not present this item because this item never has any transactions before.
The demonstration is as follows:
1.Create new item.

2.Create counting journal.

3.Test recording item transaction, but not post, and delete that transaction.

4.Recreate counting journal. Here, you will see that this item is recognized like it has had transaction before, but no quantity left.

5.Create Stock Card Sum report to compare the result with Counting Journal. And it clearly seen that this report does not show this item since it actually has no transaction.

If you are curious about this fact, why not try this out!
